Wood heat treatment & deck boards

Deck boards heat-oiled in an autoclave with linseed oil — protection into the pores, not just the surface.

Deck boards only Installation on request Autoclave linseed oil From €22.32/m²

Why heat-oil treatment

Protection inside the board, not only on top

Autoclave heat-oiling gives deck boards long-lasting protection without damaging the natural wood structure.

We use linseed oil, driven into the board pores under vacuum and pressure at up to +65 °C. The result is a water-repellent, UV-tougher and mould-resistant deck board that handles Estonian rain, snow and sun better than a single surface oiling.

  • Autoclave linseed oilVacuum and heat carry the oil into the pores — protection does not stay on the surface alone.
  • Deck boards onlyPressure-treated pine, larch, thermopine — we treat before installation.
  • Installation on requestNeed the full build? We can construct the whole terrace from one place.

What you get

Why autoclave treatment beats surface oiling

Surface oiling mainly coats the outside. In an autoclave the protective agent is driven deep into the board — fuller protection and a longer maintenance interval.

Water-repellent and more stable

As it cools, linseed oil bonds with the wood pores. Less moisture uptake — less warping and cracking through year-round temperature swings.

Mould and UV protection

Treatment reduces water absorption and slows greying. Tone holds longer; the terrace stays cleaner.

Natural linseed oil, tone options

A renewable protective agent — wood texture stays visible. Graphite brown, grey, dark brown, brown, dark red or yellowish.

How the work runs

Heat-oiling in four steps

The autoclave method differs from surface deck oiling — the protective agent reaches deep into the board.

1

Deck board selection

We choose suitable timber — spruce, pine, larch or thermowood. Before treatment we check quality and dryness.

2

Heat treatment under vacuum

In the autoclave, linseed oil is heated above +65 °C. Vacuum and pressure help the oil penetrate the board pores.

3

Cooling and fixation

As it cools, the oil locks firmly into the wood. An even, water-repellent protective layer forms.

4

Ready boards or installation

We check tone uniformity and coverage. If needed we install the terrace — see terrace construction.

Material and sizes

Which deck boards suit heat-oiling?

Heat-oiling is ordered for pressure-treated pine AB-grade boards, larch, thermopine or other outdoor timber. On the Estonian market the most common sizes are 28×95 mm and 28×120 mm.

UC3 treatment and AB grade

UC3 means outdoor protection without direct ground contact — for deck boards and railings. AB grade refers to wood quality: fewer knots, more even profile. Green treatment gives the classic green-yellow tone; brown suits architectural terraces better.

Standard lengths: 3600, 3900 and 4200 mm. 4800 mm on order — fewer joints. Heat-oiling for the same boards from €22.32/m² (incl. VAT). Installation, transport and custom sizes quoted separately. Order from the shop or request a quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a heat-oiled deck board?

A deck board treated in an autoclave with linseed oil. Vacuum and heat drive the oil into the wood pores — the result is a water-repellent, UV-tougher surface.

How does heat-oiling differ from regular deck oiling?

Surface oiling mainly coats the outside. In an autoclave the protective agent is driven deep into the board — protection is more thorough and longer-lasting.

Which deck board size is most popular?

28×120 mm grooved deck board is the most common in Estonia — a strong balance of price, durability and ease of installation. 28×95 mm suits smaller terraces.

What does UC3 treatment mean?

UC3 is the treatment class for outdoor timber (decks, railings) without direct ground contact. AB grade marks wood quality — fewer knots, more even surface.

What is the difference between UC3 and thermally modified wood?

UC3 is chemical impregnation. Thermally modified wood is heat-treated without additives — more dimensionally stable, even dark tone, longer service life. Heat-oiling is separate: pressure-treated or other boards get deep linseed oil treatment in an autoclave.

Which tones are available?

Graphite brown, grey, dark brown, brown, dark red and yellowish / natural.

How much does heat-oiling cost?

Price is calculated by m², wood species and tone. Treatment from about €22.32/m² (incl. VAT). Exact quote after your enquiry.

How long does treatment take?

Usually 1–2 weeks from order to ready deck boards. Exact schedule depends on volume.

Can you treat an already installed terrace?

The surface must be clean and dry before treatment. Usually it is better to treat boards before installation — we advise per project. For maintenance of an installed terrace, see also terrace oiling.

Do you also install terraces?

Yes — we provide terrace construction, so you get the full build from one team.
