Why a sauna

The place where the evening begins with calm

A good sauna is not just a stove and panelling. It is a steam room where the body relaxes, thoughts settle and warm wood calls you back — evening after evening.

Every steam room is different: room size, humidity, use and light. We do not build to a template. We come on site, measure and talk through how the sauna works best in your particular space — only then do we settle the materials, the stove and the price.

  • Aspen for the benchesIt neither leaks resin nor gets hot — pleasant to touch even in the hottest steam.
  • Alder and thermo-wood for the wallsA warm reddish tone and a material that withstands humidity and does not warp in the steam.
  • Your layoutFits a narrow bathroom too — every room gets its own bench and stove solution.

Why Puuseppmeister

Three things we do differently on every steam room

Every steam room is different — room size, humidity, use. Below is what we always think through on each project.

The right timber

Aspen for the benches, alder and thermo-wood for the walls — wood that withstands steam and humidity, stays beautiful and does not get hot. We choose the material to suit the room and the budget.

The stove installed correctly

We install HUUM and Saunum stoves to the manufacturer's instructions — the right power output, safe clearances and proper ventilation. Safe steam that stays even.

Tailored to your room

Fits a private house or a narrow apartment bathroom alike. A tempered-glass door and shower area open up the room — more light and a more spacious feel.

Planning

Planning a steam room starts with measuring

Every project starts with measuring the room. We discuss the layout, the number of benches and the stove's power output — for an apartment and a private house alike. We give a preliminary quote before the build begins, so you know what fits the budget.

  • Aspen for the benches — it neither leaks resin nor gets hot
  • Alder for the walls — a warm, reddish natural tone
  • Tempered-glass door and shower area

Planning overview

Duration usually 2–4 weeks. Suitable for both an apartment and a private house. The first step is always a free on-site measurement — the whole solution and the exact price depend on it.

Technical and requirements

Technical requirements in Estonia

We build saunas in line with the humidity and fire-safety requirements. We check the requirements before the build begins — you do not have to research them yourself. These are the core requirements we follow on every project.

  • Min. 150 mm air gap behind the stove
  • At least 5× the room volume of air changes per hour
  • Moisture-resistant materials (moisture class HLS 3–4)

Electric stove and documents

An electric stove needs a building notice and a separate supply cable, and always a certified electrical design. We install HUUM and Saunum stoves to the manufacturer's instructions and help with the paperwork where needed.

Ventilation and humidity

We leave a minimum 150 mm air gap behind the stove and ensure at least 5× the room volume of air changes per hour. We use moisture-resistant materials (moisture class HLS 3–4) so the steam room dries out correctly and the wood lasts for a long time.

Stove installation

We set the clearances according to the manufacturer's installation guide. An electric stove needs a building notice and a separate supply cable. We install HUUM and Saunum stoves as a certified installer — the right power output and safe clearances.

Building notice

A separate sauna building may require a building notice via ehr.ee. We check the local authority requirements before the build begins and help with preparing the documents where needed.

Price and payment

What affects the price of building a sauna

The price depends above all on the materials, the size of the steam room and the stove. The earlier these decisions are made, the more accurate the quote. The exact price is always clear after the on-site visit — and the measurement is free.

  • Materials — alder, aspen, thermo-wood; the stove and glass have the biggest effect
  • Steam room size — a bigger room needs more material and a more powerful stove
  • Stove and glass — HUUM or Saunum, a glass door and shower-area glass
  • Installation — ventilation, insulation and an electric-stove design where needed

Estimate your steam room price

Choose area, bench and wall timber and the stove — get a guide before we visit. Every steam room is different, so this is indicative.

  • Compare aspen, alder and thermo-wood
  • Account for stove and glass options
  • Exact quote after measurement

Why a configurator?

Steam and materials set the feel. Aspen on the benches does not get hot, thermo-wood does not warp — these choices affect both price and everyday comfort.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does building a sauna require a building notice?

A separate sauna building or a sauna connected to a house may require a building notice. Installing an electric stove always requires a certified electrical design. We check the local authority requirements before the build begins and help with the documents where needed.

What wood should be used in a sauna?

Aspen or thermo-aspen for the benches, alder or thermo-wood for the walls. Aspen neither gets hot nor leaks resin, and thermo-wood does not warp in the steam. We help you choose to suit your budget and style.

How is the price of building a sauna formed?

The materials, the size of the steam room and the stove have the biggest effect on the price. Use the sauna configurator for an initial guide — the exact price is clear after a free measurement and once the project has been specified.

How long does building a sauna take?

Usually 2–4 weeks from the first conversation to a finished sauna, depending on the size of the room and the materials.
